For long have we wandered in the desert,
Dispersed to the four corners,
Want of organization and an upstart plague
Between us and the gathering of our tribe,
Until Claire the Faire awaked the family spirit
From dreaming to urgent purpose.
Now that oasis stands before us,
The Great Gray Gathering 2022,
Where the warm embrace of kith and kin*
Shall be rekindled under Chicago’s summer skies,
Our ties refreshed beside the cooling waters
Of Lake Michigan and the Water Tower of Pearl’s domain.
The call carried by swift messengers,
The family standard prepared to hoist aloft
For the assembly of generations,
And now’s the time for preparations,
Airline and hotel reservations (Chicagoans excused).
